As the summer term speeds by and the holidays draw near, we're arriving at the perfect moment to think about how pupils can continue to nurture a love of literacy beyond the classroom. This resource is designed to help keep that spark alive during the summer holidays.
Making literacy joyful
We have curated a collection of fun, flexible activities that encourage pupils to read for pleasure and write for enjoyment throughout the summer. From discovering new adventures at the local library to creating cosy, imaginative reading spaces at home, these ideas aim to make literacy a joyful part of everyday life.
Using our summer of literacy resources
Our teacher guidance for inspirational activities is available for three different age groups:
- Ages 5 to 7 (primary KS1/P2-P3)
- Ages 7 to 11 (primary KS2/P4-P7
- Ages 11 to 14 (secondary KS3/S1-S3)
Our resources are designed so that you can use the final weeks of term to explore the activities with your class, sparking interest and motivation.
Next, these activities are developed into ideas that you can share and adapt so that learners are encouraged to continue reading and writing at home, and empowering parents and carers to support them - keeping literacy enjoyment alive all summer long!
