In 2014, levels of reading enjoyment and daily reading outside class were at their highest levels in nine years. However, the gap between girls and boys who enjoy reading has increased and more girls are reading daily outside class.
This report
outlines findings about children’s and young people’s reading from our fifth
annual literacy survey, which we conducted in November/December 2014. 32,026
children and young people aged eight to 18 participated. For the first time
in 2014, we had enough pupils to include KS5 in our analyses.
Findings are broken down by sociodemographic information and are linked to reading attainment data.
