Writing Engagement Survey

Take part in our new writing research
Take part in our research and discover your pupils' perspectives on writing, both inside and outside the classroom.
Writing is more than just a skill - it’s a powerful tool for thinking, communication, and self-expression. But what inspires young writers? How do they engage with writing inside and outside the classroom and what support do they need to thrive?
What do we want to find out?
Our new writing survey, developed in partnership with Oxford University Press, offers the opportunity to build a clearer picture of children and young people’s writing lives.
These valuable insights can inform classroom practice, as well as shape how we support teachers and advocate for meaningful policy change.
Your participation will provide insights into your students’ writing journeys, shedding light on their motivations, struggles, progress, and the support they need to thrive as confident and expressive writers.
How will the writing survey report benefit you?
Your free school-specific summary report can be used to:
- Shape your literacy strategy
- Review your current provision
- Provide supporting evidence for OFSTED, Estyn, Education Scotland and the ETI
Additionally, once the national reports are published, you can compare your results on a national scale.
