Youth literacy and employability 2013

Added 01 Jun 2013 | Updated 21 Sep 17

Read our reports on youth literacy and employability. In 2013, the National Literacy Trust and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Literacy held a joint commission to examine the links between young people’s literacy skills and employment in the UK.

Read about whether employers think schools are equipping young people with the literacy skills required for the workplace. This is primarily based on secondary literature sources and introductory conversations with a small sample of key employers and agencies.

We also explored children’s and young people’s views on literacy and employability. Using secondary sources as well as our own survey data, we outline how important young people think literacy skills are to their employment prospects and what skills they believe are particularly important. We also explore the important role that technology plays in the lives of young people and the degree to which this is linked to wider employment skills.
