Read the findings about children’s and young people’s reading from our fourth annual literacy survey conducted in November/December 2013. 29,422 young people aged eight to 16 participated.
It shows that levels of reading enjoyment have improved for the first time since 2005. Similarly, compared with previous years, more children and young people in 2013 read daily outside class.
Findings are broken down by sociodemographic information and are linked to reading attainment data (available for 12,000 of participating pupils).
