Grow a generation of readers

Together, we can #GrowAGenerationOfReaders
Our latest reading for pleasure research reveals both children and young people’s reading enjoyment and daily reading frequency have fallen to their lowest levels since we began tracking them twenty years ago.
It’s time to #GrowAGenerationOfReaders and find each child’s route into a lifelong love of reading.
We want to turn the page on these statistics, so we need your help to amplify awareness of our latest research and work together to grow a generation of future readers.
WARNING: This social media campaign may cause children to pick up a book.
Through our social media campaign, we want to help people understand why reading for pleasure is so important and raise awareness about the different ways children and young people can re-engage with a love of reading across all formats.
The social media content has a two-pronged approach:
- Thought-provoking research data with insights and statistics taken from our Annual Literacy Survey 2025.
- User-generated content inspired by our research that demonstrates the benefits of reading for pleasure: 2 in 3 children and young people say they don’t enjoy reading in their free time. Yet, reading supports mental wellbeing, empathy, learning and happy futures.

WARNING - this next post definitely has High Wellbeing Factor! Creative talent and Instagram influencer India Rose Crawford helped us to raise awareness about the importance of reading enjoyment amongst children and young people with her post featuring knitted creations Frog and Toad cosying up to read a book together. Who wouldn't want to climb into this exquisite autumnal scene and find out what Frog and Toad are reading?
How can you get involved on social media?
Don't just leave it to Frog and Toad to raise awareness about the benefits reading for pleasure. We're asking you to add your voice to our social media campaign to show how important reading for enjoyment is.
Share your favourite book - but with a warning! We’ve flipped the concept of content warnings on its head to instead extol the benefits of reading, and we are urging the public to post a photo of a children's book or YA title, captioned with a warning.
