West Yorkshire Poetry Week is back!

We're thrilled to announce that the return of West Yorkshire Poetry Week as part of the West Yorkshire Young Poet Laureate Programme for 2024-25.

Bring the energy of contemporary poetry to your classroom with a week-long programme of free activities, class resources and events including a National Poetry Day celebration to inspire the next generation of poets in the region.

When is West Yorkshire Poetry Week?

We're celebrating from Monday 30 September to Friday 4 October 2024, incorporating National Poetry Day which falls on Thursday 3 October. We'll be providing inspiration, resources, and events to help you engage and excite young people in your school.

Who is this for?

Students of all ages from primary and secondary schools across West Yorkshire.

Could one of your students be the region’s poetry ambassador?

We are delighted to be partnering with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and the National Poetry Centre again to run another year of the fantastic West Yorkshire Young Poet Laureate Programme. The Young Poet Laureate Competition will launch during West Yorkshire Poetry Week to students in Year 4, and Year 9 from schools across West Yorkshire.

The competition will be free to enter and entries will be judged in two categories: Primary, Year 4 and Secondary, Year 9.

Guest judges include Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin, National Poet Laureate Simon Armitage and a team of local professional poets.
