We teamed up with children’s author and educator Liz Flanagan on our Bradford based project, Inspiring Parents, to bring her exciting workshops to more than 150 children at four primary schools in Keighley.

Liz Flanagan, author of Dragon Daughter and Eden Summer, gave the pupils at Denholme, Merlin Top, St Anne’s and Holycroft primary schools, insight into the magical world of language and storytelling and helped them create their own mythical creatures.

Liz led the children through a series of activities that gave them a flavour of what it is like to develop, write, and publish a book like Dragon Daughter. She then held a workshop in which pupils used research and their creativity to develop magical creatures to be used in their very own stories.

Liz answered all of the student’s questions about her books and the process of writing them. Liz said the pupils had “great questions” and that she was “very impressed both with their ideas and their creative use of language."

“We were delighted to be able to invite Liz to run workshops at four schools in Keighley. Author visits into schools are a fantastic way of inspiring children to fall in love with reading and writing. It was brilliant to see the children using their imagination and enthusiastically engaging with creative writing.”
