Literacy resources you can trust

For nearly 15 years, National Literacy Trust membership has been supporting teachers, practitioners and school leaders like you to transform literacy teaching and improve outcomes for children and young people.
Our staff team of educators who write and quality-assure membership resources bring a wealth of expertise and experience from working in, and with, schools and settings. We understand the challenges you face, and your need for robust, reliable, and flexible support.
Our strategic leadership and classroom teaching resources are deeply rooted in the latest research and evidence, and aligned with policy and guidance frameworks.
Furthermore, we carefully map learning activities in the resources to the curriculum requirements of the four nations across the United Kingdom, giving you clarity on intended literacy outcomes.
Whether you are a senior leader focusing on whole-school improvement, a literacy lead seeking trusted approaches to embed best practice, or an early career teacher in need of proven ideas for developing literacy provision within your lessons, you can rely on our support.
Expert, dependable, adaptable
The development of our resources and tools for National Literacy Trust members is underpinned by core principles and practice.
-
Research informed
Our groundbreaking research provides insights into the education landscape and young people's literacy attitudes and behaviours. These findings underpin all our work, and help us develop reosurces that are directly informed by the young people and professionals we aim to support.
-
Aligned with policy
We ensure that the resources we provide are aligned with governmental policy and guidance on education practice, reading and writing frameworks, and robust evidence from sources such as the Education Endowment Foundation.
-
Curriculum linked
Our resources are developed with reference to the curriculum requirements for each of the UK four nations. Resources with a defined skills focus include an appendix outlining relevant links; resources with more flexible outcomes will have these aims woven in.
-
Expertise and quality
We apply rigorous processes to ensure high-quality in our resources. We draw on the vast range of expertise and in-depth experience of the National Literacy Trust staff team, work with trusted consultants, and each resource undergoes quality assurance to ensure it meets the needs of the practitioners we support.
-
Partnership
Where relevant, we work with specialist organisations, consultants, poets, authors, and publishers. This enables us to bring an informed literacy lens to sensitive topics - such as Refugee Week and Holocaust Memorial Day - as well as providing interactive online events with inspiring writers and illustrators.
-
Shaped by members
Your feedback is vital in helping us to develop our membership offer and the resources we provide. Your evaluations, comments and suggestions help us to improve and plan so we can help school leaders and classroom teachers best support children and young people.
Help shape our resources
We love receiving feedback on our membership and resources to learn how you are using them, and how we can develop our provision to support you better. From short surveys to focus-group discussions or a direct one-to-one chat, we really want to hear from you.
