Course content

• Review recent research and theory about academic language and disciplinary literacy
• Identify disciplinary literacy demands of curriculum subjects and the implications for teaching and learning
• Try out practical strategies which develop disciplinary reading and academic vocabulary
• Understand how key academic writing tools (discourse markers and passive voice) can support cohesive and coherent writing

• Secondary subject teachers and whole-school literacy leaders who are new to the concept of disciplinary literacy
