Place-themed Literacy CPD: Shakespeare and Me

11 Dec 2025

4:00pm - 4:00pm

Online

Do you work in a secondary school or adult education setting?

Would you like to engage learners with storytelling and local heritage?

In this FREE online CPD session, we will discuss a project which used the life and words of Shakespeare - as a famous West Midlands writer - to encourage students in Birmingham to share stories about their own lives and connect to the local area.

Dr Kate Rumbold of the University of Birmingham will explain the development and practicalities of Shakespeare and Me - which has been running impactfully in Birmingham for six years.

As well as the project itself, we will discuss how a similar approach - perhaps using quotes from a different writer, local to you - might engage students with literacy and the local area.

This session is part of our ongoing CPD series on place-themed approaches to literacy.
