Do you work in a secondary school with multilingual learners?
Are you looking for ways to engage these learners with literacy and celebrate their heritage?
In this FREE, online CPD session, we will discuss a recent pilot project that sought to engage multilingual learners in reading and writing poetry.
The Home Words project asked young people to submit words from their home languages that had particular importance or meaning to them. This extraordinary cross-cultural lexicon was then shared with three local poets, who each wrote a piece using some of the words. Young people were then encouraged to write their own poems in response - celebrating multilingualism in their community.
Our CPD session will feature Bohdan Piasecki - one of the poets who wrote for the Home Words project - as well as National Literacy Trust staff.
We will discuss the project itself - and how similar approaches might work in your school community.
This session is part of our ongoing CPD series on place-themed approaches to literacy.
