About Improving Writing in KS2 (IPEELL) CPD:

Unlock confident, independent writers in KS2 with IPEELL. In this online CPD, you’ll explore strategies to help learners take ownership of their writing, build self-assessment skills, and tackle a wide range of text types with confidence – beyond scaffolded exercises.

Our research has shown that writing enjoyment has almost halved over the past 15 years - with just 1 in 4 (26.6%) of children and young people enjoying writing in their free time. This poses long-term implications for learning and literacy outcomes. In another report, 2 in 5 (38.7%) children told us they enjoy writing in school. While 3 in 4 (73.4%) considered themselves to be either very good or good writers, more of those who enjoyed writing at school also viewed themselves as good writers.

This demonstrates clear opportunities in the classroom for positive impact. With the IPEELL approach, you can provide a structured framework to help children to take ownership of the writing process and improve their stamina.

Why choose this course?

Here's what teachers have to say about this CPD:

‘As a year 2 teacher, I found that the self motivation techniques and thinking about the Purpose and Audience for a written piece the most useful elements of the training. I did, however, enjoy all of it and I've gained a better understanding of the writing process as a result of the training. I think this will be a very powerful tool for us to use in school.’

‘It was really practical and made sense so I could see how it would be used in the classroom.’
