Why attend Schemas and learning in KS1?

Schemas are central to children’s learning and, in line with advice from the EEF, provide an important framework for building on children's prior knowledge. Integrating schematic awareness into your practice will help support children to develop linguistic, mathematical and scientific concepts.

What will I learn?

  • Learn how repetition helps children to move from concrete to more symbolic and abstract thinking and communication.
  • Explore the biological and socio-cultural elements of schemas within the curriculum.
  • Discover the importance of observing, supporting and extending schema in KS1/P1-P3
  • Consider how to utilize language and materials (for example construction, drawing and painting) within the curriculum to enrich learning.
