On Wednesday 17 August and Thursday 25 August, over 300 children attended Black Country Reads’ series of summer events. These events were hosted in partnership with Go Play Sandwell and Groundworks West Midlands, and took place at Friar Park, Wednesbury and Lewisham Park, Smethwick.

Local families were invited to take part in a series of activities hosted by Go Play Sandwell and their local partners. To support this activity, we organised storytelling sessions from local storytellers Sue Perks and Syeda Bibi as well as gifting summer activity packs, bingo challenge sheets and free books to all children that took part. Over 400 books were gifted to families across the two events.

“Thank you for making the event on the 17 August enjoyable, the whole team were so professional and approachable. We had a massive turn out, the feedback that we have had back from the parents, carers and children has been very positive.”

Julie Jones, CEO at The Millennium Centre, Friar Park

If you were unable to take part in the event and collect your free goodie bag, you can still download our summer activity pack to print for children to complete at home. Follow the Black Country Reads Facebook page to be the first to hear about future events near you.
