Remembering Barbara Taylor Bradford OBE - Memorial Fund
Continuing her lifetime's work
Barbara Taylor Bradford was one of the world's most loved authors, selling more than 91 million books to date. She was also a passionate advocate for improving literacy skills throughout her life.
The National Literacy Trust is incredibly proud that Barbara served as an ambassador for our work for over a decade. She helped change lives in some of the UK's most disadvantaged communities, with HM Queen Elizabeth II awarding her an OBE for services to literature in 2007.
Donate now to help transform the life chances of more children and young people. Help us create a lasting legacy for Barbara Taylor Bradford's work.
What is the impact of low literacy skills?
-
Children who struggle with language at age five are six times less likely to reach the expected standard in English aged 11.
-
Children that leave school with low literacy are more likely to be unemployed by their 30s.
-
In England, struggling to read is more closely linked to low pay and the risk of being unemployed than in any other developed country.
With your support, in memory of Barbara Taylor Bradford OBE, we can change this
We work in the most disadvantaged communities in the UK, where as many as one in three people have low levels of literacy.
We support the people who need us most, from helping parents to develop their baby's early language skills, to researching and developing the tools teachers need to improve literacy skills in schools and helping vulnerable teenagers to connect and communicate.
Help us change lives through the power of words by making a donation in memory of Barbara Taylor Bradford, someone who always worked to inspire and uplift others through the power of her words in both her career and her philanthropic work.
