How long is the training?

This professional development course comprises three 60 minute online modules. It will enable English teachers to develop their practice in teaching creative writing at Key Stages 3 and 4. The three modules explore ways of creating structurally coherent, convincing and compelling narratives in line with the A05 mark scheme descriptors for Level 4. Participants will leave with a new toolbox of techniques to support students’ creative writing as well as developing their own creative writing practices.

What will I learn?

  • Explore skills, knowledge and practical approaches for the teaching of creative writing with students in Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of creative writing processes
  • Improve confidence in the teaching of narrative and descriptive writing
  • Consider ways of embedding new approaches into regular classroom practice

Participants will need a pen and notebook and should be prepared for a hands-on, practical experience in which they will reflect on their own writing in order to develop students’ creative writing.
