Words for Work

The downloadable files on this page are only accessible to those who have attended our Teaching Vocabulary Within the Curriculum workshop. If you haven't taken part, but are interested, you can learn more about all of our secondary training courses and how to book.

What does the training cover?

Recent recommendations from the EEF suggest that to improve literacy in secondary schools, teachers should ‘provide targeted vocabulary instruction in every subject’. Focusing on the importance of disciplinary literacy, participants at this workshop will:

  • Engage with recent research on vocabulary
  • Understand the role of academic language in the curriculum
  • Develop knowledge of word morphology
  • Try out strategies for direct vocabulary instruction

After the training

Further resources on cross-curricular literacy are available to all National Literacy Trust members.

Now that you have membership of the National Literacy Trust, you can access those resources.

There is also further training available to help you implement disciplinary literacy - find out more.
