Thank you booking your place at Literacy Leadership.

Effective leadership is key to improving literacy in secondary schools so that students can read, write and communicate effectively in all their subjects.

Education Endowment Foundation guidance recommends that ‘disciplinary literacy is prioritised across the curriculum’. This one-day workshop supports school literacy leaders, and equips them to work across their school to ensure that subject specificity is prioritised over ‘general approaches’.

Participants will:

  • Review current school development plans
  • Define the challenges and plan for developing key literacy leadership roles and whole-school support
  • Explore the EEF DIY Evaluation framework, plus resources developed by the National Literacy Trust
  • Understand policy writing, planning for appropriate interventions and creating subject-specific literacy plans

Before the training

Please read the EEF KS3 and KS4 literacy poster in preparation. Also please bring along your current school development plan or literacy development plan.

After the training

Further resources on cross-curricular literacy are available to all National Literacy Trust members.

Now that you have membership of the National Literacy Trust, you can access those resources here.

There is also further training available to help you implement disciplinary literacy - find out more here.

Please contact schools@literacytrust.org.uk if you need any further guidance.
