Last night, our Director Jonathan Douglas attended an event filled with football royalty in London to celebrate the launch of the Premier League’s new flagship education programme, Premier League Primary Stars. As part of the programme, we have created a range of English resources for teachers.
The ambitious community programme aims to connect with 10,000 primary schools in England and Wales by 2019 and is working with 88 Premier League and English Football League clubs to achieve this.
Premier League Primary Stars offers teachers, parents and primary school children a range of free lesson plans, activities and videos which use the power of football to inspire boys and girls to develop their language, communication, numeracy and sports skills. As part of the programme, we created a range of English resources and updated the popular Premier League Reading Stars reading intervention, for teachers to use in the classroom. The resources use real life football examples to make lessons both engaging and educational for pupils. Registered schools will also be able to enter a range of exciting competitions, including the chance to win a visit from the Premier League trophy.
At last night’s event, the Premier League also gave guests a sneak preview of its first-ever national TV advertising campaign. The advertising campaign launches today and viewers will get the chance to see football royalty including Gary Cahill, Theo Walcott and Juan Mata as they take football in to the classroom.
We’ve been working with the Premier League for 15 years to help teachers use football to motivate their pupils to read and write. Our Premier League Reading Stars programme has been a huge success, with three-quarters of children who take part making at least 6 months’ reading progress in just 10 weeks. We’re excited to continue our great partnership with the Premier League and encourage all primary schools to register for Premier League Primary Stars today.”
