Junior Annual Literacy Survey

Wellbeing - girls writing

Junior Annual Literacy Survey explores children’s reading and writing enjoyment, attitudes and behaviour in a younger child-friendly way, running alongside our Annual Literacy Survey. The survey takes place for the second time in January/February 2020.

We will start recruiting schools in autumn 2019.

Participating schools get their own individual school report that outlines your basic findings, which you can compare nationally once the national reports are published.

You could use your report to:

  • inform literacy strategy
  • give as supporting evidence to OFSTED
  • review your current literacy provision

How it works

We aim to survey children aged 5 to 8, both male and female, from a variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.

Participating schools will need to provide pupils with access to a 20-minute online survey, and we will do the rest.

The Junior Annual Literacy Survey is now closed for 2019. To sign up for next year's survey, fill out our expression of interest form.
