Do you have excellent administration skills and experience of recruiting and supporting community volunteers? Could you work in partnership with schools and other partners to support family literacy and parental engagement in Blackpool?
We are recruiting a Volunteering and Support Officer to join our new team in Blackpool and support the Get Blackpool Reading campaign. You will be responsible for delivering the School Gates Volunteers programme, recruiting volunteers who will develop and deliver activities that promote literacy in their communities. You will work with education settings from early years to secondary schools, and provide training and ongoing support. You will also support work with teenage mothers, and provide general support to the Project Manager.
You will need experience of delivering community programmes, working with schools and providing administrative support. Knowledge of the Blackpool community and its challenges will be essential, as well as understanding of good practice in volunteer management and safeguarding.
One person in six has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills will struggle to succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood that, by the age of five, a child’s literacy skills will be below average.
