Are you an excellent project officer with experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers and working with parents?

We are recruiting a Project Officer to support a new programme to improve early speech, language and communication for families living in areas of disadvantage.

You will be responsible for supporting programme delivery in Peterborough, Nottingham and Newcastle, organising events and recruiting and training volunteers from local businesses, with at least 60 active volunteers per area.

This will include the design and delivery of public events, supported by volunteers, to give parents and families information and support to strengthen what they do in the home to promote literacy. You will be responsible for working with locally based staff to make sure these events complement existing activity and help reach our goal of working with at least 2,100 families.

You will need experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers, as well as providing project support in a charity or educational context.

This is a unique opportunity to play a lead role in an ambitious and creative programme, working with a wide range of partners and impacting on the lives of families across the UK.

One person in seven has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can’t succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood of literacy failure by the age of five.

We are an independent charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK. Our research and analysis make us the leading authority on literacy. We run projects in the poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and parents, and support schools. Our mission is to give young people the literacy skills they need to get a job and lead a successful life.

As well as a competitive salary, we offer benefits including a generous annual leave allowance of 28 days (plus bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and new year), and pensions contributions of 8% of annual salary.

Closing date: 5pm, Tuesday 11 December 2018
