Do you have experience of leadership, planning and delivery of outcomes within the criminal justice sector? Could you help develop our strategic vision for improving literacy skills in order to transform lives?

We are recruiting a Policy and Programme Manager to lead our work in the criminal justice sector.

This role will be based in our communities team, and be responsible for leading strategic planning, programme development and policy work in the criminal justice space. You will build relationships, develop and deliver sustainable business models, and ensure our work responds to the current policy context. You will also represent the charity with key stakeholders in the civil society and justice sectors, including with local and national government, the media and funders.

You will have strong strategic leadership skills, and be able to foster excellent partnership relationships and align stakeholder requirements. You will also need experience of programme management, including financial and risk management, and delivery of work within the criminal justice sector.

One person in six has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can’t succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood of literacy failure by the age of five.

We are an independent charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK. Our research and analysis make us the leading authority on literacy. We run projects in the poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and parents, and support schools. Our mission is to give young people the literacy skills they need to get a job and lead a successful life.

As well as a competitive salary, we offer benefits including a generous annual leave allowance of 28 days (plus bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and new year), and pensions contributions of 8% of annual salary.
