Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Do you have experience of administration, team support and event logistics, preferably in a school-facing role?

We are recruiting an Administrator to join our new Literacy for Life team, delivering programme activity and training to put literacy at the heart of secondary school improvement.

Literacy for Life develops pupils’ subject specific vocabulary and ability to communicate effectively in all subjects. Following a successful pilot, we have secured funding to increase the number of schools taking part in direct programme delivery, and engage even more schools with training developed through the programme.

You will be responsible for general administrative and programme delivery support, as well as organising the logistics of training and marketing the offer to schools. This will include responding to enquiries, drafting copy for web and social media, sending invoices and supporting credit control.

You will need excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to speak confidently to external stakeholders from a range of backgrounds. Experience of working in the education sector would be an advantage.

One person in six has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can’t succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood of literacy failure by the age of five.

We are an independent charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK. Our research and analysis make us the leading authority on literacy. We run projects in the poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and parents, and support schools. Our mission is to give young people the literacy skills they need to get a job and lead a successful life.

As well as a competitive salary, we offer benefits including a generous annual leave allowance of 28 days (plus bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and new year), and pensions contributions of 8% of annual salary.
